An atara, the Hebrew word for tiara or crown, is usually referred to the additional silver decoration sewn along the edge of the tallit closest to the head. Although technically, many tallits come standard with basic ataras, which is usually comprised of an additional rectangular shaped cloth, often silk screened or embroidered, decorated with designs and the tallit blessing. Many enhance and beautify their tallit with this special glamorous attachment. The silver atara is sewn in place of the basic one, giving the tallit a distinct charisma. Silver ataras come in a range of styles. Many styles have the option of the background fabric and width.
